Each registered domain has no less than two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a particular web hosting company. This way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The former shows which server manages the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you may have your website and your emails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting through us, you'll be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. Provided that a specific domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change certain records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails pointed to another provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool is going to enable you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name in any way. If you want to use the email services of another company and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with only a few mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will allow you to see the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if required, to change any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you full control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
